Music CD's protected?

Nitemare

Lifer
I just popped a new music cd in my Toshiba DVD/CD player and it had an autorun..a video, but when I went under explorer I couldn't get to any of the songs? Is this new or something? And is there a way to get around it?

There was a report on the news the other evening talking about software protection against copy audio cd's....I for one would like to know if they are out on the streets already and what labels are using them. I like to make compilation cds for my travels of cds I own. This will piss me off!!

In the end it is only a matter of time before someone defeats it...Why don't those bloated pigs realize you want to end piracy drop the price to something reasonable. 16 bucks for a cd of 2 good songs and the rest crap songs the group rushed to fill the rest of cd is ridiculous!!! 1 buck a good song is right if I can pick 16 songs I like to fill my own cd...

I believe all enhanced CDs are that what, and always have been. If you are trying to copy the songs to a CD-R you will probably have to record them (as a wav or MP3) then burn the sound file.

It must be an "enhanced CD". A few labels/artists include CD-video clips on some of their discs. There are no copy-protected CD's on the market at this time. Explorer's not showing you the songs because there is a data track on the disc, and it shows that. A ripping program should be able to get the songs off the disc, or a cd-player program should be able to play them.

I can't even play any songs under cd player. The only one that will play is the one with video, and that is only with the video running. All of my old CD's worked, but the one(newest) I got at Christmas is this way. I wasn't sure what it is, but I am irked that I can't even listen to an audio CD which I purchased in my own computer. I guess I will just have to keep downloading mp3's for free vs. spending my hard earned money in Sam Goody's. At least I can listen to them on my computer...hehe😀

Just tell the CD player to play the cd in drive x: (x = the drive letter of your CD-Rom, of course), it should play. You more than likely won't be able to do file>Open>CD Drive>Track5

Yeah...use nero or something to get them off...they should be .cda format on the disc.

I know I still did see something on the news about some sort of protection coming out or out that is supposed to make it difficult to do this...whether it is on the cd or on hardware I don't know...didn't pay too much attention to it at the time...
