Mushkin Rev 1.5 not running at CAS2?

Even though I set up my BIOS (MSI K7T Turbo) to read the memory at CAS2, 133MHz, SisSoft Sandra reads the memory at 2:3:3.

Is the memory not really CAS2? Is this how it is supposed to read?

Here's the quote from Mushkin's web page:

<< The Mushkin High Performace Rev 1.5 PC133 module!
Our recommendation currently for Athlon boards.
Our tests have shown these Mushkin modules to be extremely stable.
SPD EPROM programmed as CAS 3:3:3.
They run stable at 2:2:2, or CAS 2 at 133Mhz when set to a "user defined" setting in the BIOS.

We have also completed tests on our 256MB PC133 modules in the above scenario and they are also tested and stable.

So...if I set the CAS latency at '2', shouldn't it read as 2:2:2?

no

Cas2 = 2:x:x

for the X:X to be 2:2 also you need to change the
RAS and the Precharge time to 2:2 also.

There shouldnt be the 'need', if you cant find it, but then you SHOULd be able to, might be under a slightly different wording.

Just put everyting to FASTEST, guarentee it is 222, if you put the memory setting on fastest everywhere in the bios.

Let someone who actually have experience with the the K7T Turbo to help you.

If you set the memory setting to SPD, it should read the SPD setting, I believe in that case you'll get 333 because Mushkin set it to 333. If you choose not by SPD, and set the CAS to 2, it should give you 222, its all controlled by a single option, you have no choice on RAS and Precharge time, they'll automatically to set to 2 accordingly. Sandra is reading 233, I wouldnt trust it so quickly just yet. If you can, try another stick which you're sure can do CAS2(222), or SPD'ed to 222, and see what Sandra reads. Maybe you can also try another program than Sandra.

final word--i talked with mushkin--they wanted screenshots of sandra and ctSPD. they looked over the jpg's i sent them all afternoon. bottom line--they said it's not doing what it ought to be doing, so they're sending me out a new stick next day air.

*shrug*
we'll see how it performs...

Sandra reads a little subcode off a chip on the ram. That chip is programmed by the manufacturer regardless of what speed the memory can rum.

Mushkin tests the ram and it is guarenteed at CAS 2. When you set it as CAS 2 in your bios, that is the speed it is running.

Dont pay attention to what Sandra says.

To veryify this, run the mem bench at CAS 2 and then set it to CAS 3 in the bios and i bet your scores drop.

i think regardless of your replacement rev 1.5 ram you'll be disappointed with the memory benchmarks on your msi system. i have a msi pro2a and i used to have 2 sticks of 128 rev 1.5 mushkin (actually i still have them and they are collecting dust). the optimal settings on msi bios for ram will always be when you set them by spd. with mushkin 1.5 ram, if you use timing by spd it will always run them at cas3 (mushkin told me the spd is set to use cas3 for higher compatibilty with systems) anyways it really doesn't matter what sandra or other programs report like someone else wrote since the best benchmarks you are gonna get are when you are using spd timings and i'm 99% sure that it will be running at cas3. anyways i got rid of the mushkin 1.5 and got 2 crucial pc133 cas2 256mb sticks and my benchmarks jumped way up. so you might want to try out some crucial ram, its way cheaper than mushkin and for me performed much better.
