Ok well I just received my mushkin pc 2100 DDR (basic) cas 2.5 today, well tried overclocking to cas 2 but no go error 5 min after boot. Man I miss crucial's great prices also while doing this I smelled a burning smell like as if the ram was burning up could I have permanitly damage the ram this way ?

Accually happened as soon as i put the chip in my VIA KT7266 pro I was just testing it ,my settings were at cas 2.0 and set to high performance, now im getting errors at cas2.5 in both chipsets the other one is K7N420

I never heard of ram burning up...it usually wouldnt get hot enough...I have generic Nanya ddr and i can get it to 300 mhz on a 8kha+ at CAS2 and on the TURBO setting.

Sounds like it could be defective ram...almost all ram could go to CAS 2 if you dont OC it.

Mushkin has an outstanding customer service and support. Give them a call and they'll ship you new RAM overnight at no cost to you.

Given the price they charged, they better have ;)

I am thinking now that maybe the smell could have been the sticker on the chip ! what do you all think?

Ive heard the sticker melt on some ram before...but it still shouldnt be running that hot. I dont know if RMA is the answer, I presume that the ram is working ok now, so maybe you just shouldnt Overclock it.

Crucial's prices may not be as ridiculously low as they were, but they still are pretty low for a very good product. IMO

I'd try swapping out the DIMM and see if it isn't OS related before you RMA the stick. You may have some corrupted files from the CAS2 attempt.

<< funny, noone ever seems to talk about mushkin any more. >>

I've noticed that. As soon as wide-spread DDR use came about, they just kind of fell off the face of the earth.

Maybe they stopped giving out RAM for reviews. You never see it reviewed much anymore either.

Mushkin (at this very moment) has an animated DDR ad on the Anandtech main page. I use them all the time. I've also used Crucial. For support and RMA, etc., Mushkin is tops.
