I was really tempted but there is a lot of customer feedback about early failures. Is the Mushkin brandname no longer what it used to be?

If I decide to jump on this any recommendations on what sort of holder is required for a desktop?

Great price, but LOTS of failures in the reviews. And Sandforce too...gonna have to pass on this one despite the awesome price.

it is interesting that more than a few 3 and 4 egg reviews also mention failures. for many other brands, failure = 1 egg review.

I think people are really impressed with the drive itself, until it goes. They're not DOA (which would typically be 1 star), but still seems like a lot more failures than you'd expect.

Amazon reviews are similarly split -- great drive, lots of failures: http://www.amazon.com/Mushkin-Chronos-2-5-Inch-Solid-MKNSSDCR240GB/dp/B005D0AE8K/

I have the 120Gb version running for almost 2 years without major issues. There were firmware hickups along the way but that was the early sandforce. I do not run my desktop that often though...

I had a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB that failed in under a month. They are SandForce Junk, IMHO.

Mushkin were never a good company IMO.

You could be right-I'm certainly no expert-but I remember from my system building days (a decade ago) their memory was top rate and had great warranties.

Agreed. I also viewed Mushkin as a top tier brand name.... until I looked at the reviews for these SSD's :(

Still an O.K. price for an SSD. Similar pricing strategy to the problem plagued OCZ drives from a few years ago.

I was looking at some common server RAM not long ago, and although the sample size was very small, the few NE customer reviews for Mushkin modules were quite critical too.

back in the early oc days mushkin was the hot stuff... literally... they rma'd anything that wasn't still smoking... ahhh... the memories of sdr 133 days... i can still smell the melting pcb's and feel the sweat on my brow from the heat off the transformers powering the tecs...

B&H, provantage and a few other places have the M500 240GB for $129 (not sure if their packaging includes the adapter - not even sure if it is the 7mm or 9.5mm drives; but capacity wise you can find it a few dollars chaeper).

Crucial has it for $129.99

There's a hot deal on the M500 120GB for $67 after coupon at superbiiz. I seriously thought about getting it but I really don't need anymore 120 SSD, I think I'm going 250GB or up from now on.

Are prices on SSD's going to go down further in the near future? Not sure I want to spring for one since I have more projects than time at this point.
