Mushkin basic 512mb DDR400@DDR440 2.7v had 1 error in memtest after 21hrs

After 21hr and 44mins memtest ran 136 passes. in the summary screen it showed 1 error at pass 92 test#4. i've never used memtest before. does this one error mean the memory is bad and unstable like in Prime95? Prime stops itself after an error whereas memtest continues going. it went to 136 passes and that was when i decided to stop the test.

Could just be a one off thing. Try it again at your oced settings. If it still brings up errors then run it at stock settings. If it fails at stock settings, then its bad and you should RMA it.

yeah im sure a random error is to be expected, everything is never 100% error free.

Piss poor advice.

No errors are acceptable in Memtest86. Period. If you have a bad part, replace it. There's no reason to stick your head in the sand and ignore it. Well, unless you like data corruption and instability...then it's okay.

Agreed. Either up the voltage a bit (probably not good for the RAM), or back down a bit in MHz or timings.

And I believe you can set Memtest86 to stop if it encounters an error.

Actually you can expect occasional random errors - there is a reason EEC memory exists, and is used in all workstation/server class computers. Someone with more knowledge then me can go into the physics of it.

the memory is not EEC. i thought it was pretty good with one error after 21hrs. the other stick of the dual pack failed 5 minutes in, at the same test #4 even at default 200mhz. has about 20 errors in 5 minutes.

run prime95, custom test, min fft = 2048.

If that does not fail after say 8 hours, I would say you are good to go.

i was under the impression that if the memory passes memtest and the computer failing prime, then the memory is not the cause of the problem and it would be cpu errors. is that correct?
