Mushkin 256mb PC133 Basic w/IBM question

I just ordered a Athlon 1.2 ghz t-bird with the abit kt7a mobo. I now need to get some pc133 memory. I came across this on Mushkin.Link Is it not a very good quality memory? Why is it so cheap? And while I am at it, what is the difference between generic and name brand memory?

Should I go for this memory stick?

Mushkin basic == Muskin basically crap.

If you are considering Mushkin basic, go to pricewatch and
find the cheapest crappiest memory on there. That's the fair
comparison because that's what Mushkin is going to send you.

Muskin's expensive memory is fine. But their basic sucks bigtime.

RE: Mushkin 256mb PC133 Basic w/IBM question

Hi!

I bought 3 of the Mushkin /IBM 256mb stix - I swapped out 2 128mb stix for one 256 on my ASUS K7/Athlon 750@950.
Have been running this for the past several days - can't tell any difference.

I can't speak to the other questions except to say that they probably aren't that readily overclockable and probably not for really mission critical stuff, but for everyday things they should be fine.

I have, in my various rigs, Mushkin w/ siemens infineon chips, as well as kingston valueram, and pny. No issues - I would stay away from some of the other (no-name) brands. At least Mushkin has a warranty, plus good tech support/customer service should there be a problem.

hope this helps,

pogo

Personally, I HATE the 32x4 modules. I would NOT buy them...there is a reason they are so cheap. If you plan on ocing, I would spend a few bucks more and get GOOD, CAS2, PC150/166 ram.

Nice rig you will have! Are you on Team AnandTech? Click the link in my sig for more info. 🙂
