lol... wow... lots of anger in there... ...that hachirokudrifter poster didnt make it any better by acting like an asshat.

personally i think drifting does take a lot of skill... even if pointless since its not a speed competition... it does teach you about car control though... and its great fun if you're doing the drifting.

Thats the truest statement I've heard. Dont get me wrong, I like watchin it for a while.

drifting is lame...the fact they made it into an "event" is even dumber...heck I used to "drift" in my old mustang all the time and while it was fun now and then, it would be absolutely stupid for a real event as it takes no talent as long as you have basic driving skills and knowledge of your car.

I'm no fan of drifting, but to hear musclecar-heads argue against it is irony in its purest form. Turning is no big skill (drifters), going fast is no big skill (musclecar-heads)... but turning while going fast? Now we're talkin'...

well... drifting isnt just sliding around a corner... they do hold racing lines like they do in racing situations... but you guys are right... anyone with a RWD can learn to hold the slide... but holding the slide before corner entry... to the apex... to corner exit until the next corner as fast as you can is what takes the skill. sliding for 2 seconds isnt exactly drifting... and neither is flooring the gas so that the rear steps out on corner exit.

saying that it takes no talent is a bit too far... because the same could be said about drag racing... yet it is held in much higher regard.

There's no double standard in that forum since it's going both ways. I'm just saying another reason why I won't buy an american car is because of the long history of anti asian sentiment in domestic car enthusiasts.

Burnouts, big slides are fun in RWD cars, but as for an event, I don't know. It's not really that cool. That doesn't mean it isn't fun to do just messing around.

Some of the pro street muscle cars could really do a number on a drifting "contest" I'd think. Tight suspensions, low pro tires, big horsepower blown big blocks.

Who knows. Anyone have any cool video links?
