Murder Rates for major U.S. cities

heh, that last one has crime rates for every type of major crime in every city, but if you *demand* more, this is a list from the FBI of the worst 25 I believe worst 25
 
What would intrigue me more would be this year's number before and after 9/11. Here in the DC area, you'd hear another story every morning. I think the city ended up with 231 murders for the year.

After the 11th, most of those fools realized that they weren't the big shot they had previously believed. I hope they suddenly (albeit, tragically) learned the errors of their ways.

I read somewhere that New York's crime rate initially dropped, but ended up being about the same as the year before. I think the initial drop may have been a result of all the police being down at the Trade Center to take care of the situation there.
 
Wow! Detroit has got a damn high number considering the size of it's population.

Good God, their murder rate per population is almost 3 times higher than Chicago.

Detroit must have big problems. I've never been there though.

Detroit isn't that bad and isn't in the top 5. In the 80s it was the number one murder capital. For being one of the oldest cities in the U.S. it isn't that bad. 9.5 million people live in Michigan, 9.25 million of them in the lower part and 6 million in the metro Detroit area.

😱 Actually, I typed that just after looking at the old stats (FBI Spreadsheet from 85-97). Detroit's numbers just jumped out at me. In newer stats, it's not so bad. It looks like murder is the in thing down in the southeast lately.
 
Without looking at the links provided, I thought Baltimore, MD was the murder capital of the country?

I was born in Detroit. When I graduated High School I went to UofArizona then to California. I pity the fools who stayed.
