I don't know if my problem is software or hardware related, so I will also post in the hardware section. (sorry for double post).
Before I begins, here is my system specs: AMD AthlonXP 2100+ on a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU (onboard RAID controller), 512MB DDR333, MSI Geforce 4 4200 128MB, Pioneer DVR-104 and LG 24x/10x/40x, D-Link DFE538TX, Maxtor ATA133 40GB, using onboard audio.
Now, I flashed my bios and installed a moded bios that would let me use IDE3 and IDE4 as standard ATA133 IDE ports. I know for sure the moded bios works. I did this because it's the only way I found to enable UDMA2 on my DVD-RW and UDMA6 on my HD. I installed the correct drivers for the Promise IDE controller (found on the same page as the moded bios). I turned off the PC, move my HD from IDE1 to IDE3, set the correct boot setting in the bios and rebooted. I can see the WinXP splash screen but after that it hangs in complete darkness (keyboard not responding) ... I rebooted in safe mode to find out mup.sys was the problem. I them switched back to IDE1 and everything works just fine.
mup.sys is network related, so I tried to uninstall my nic, same problem. On experts-exchange.com, 2 threads speaks about boot problems due to mup.sys and the 2 users has a maxtor HD, so is it hardware related? I am so confused, I want it to work so much. Why does WinXP boot without a hitch on my IDE1 and can't load a network related file on IDE3?
Any inputs would be appreciated.
