This is an interesting development..... Linux over Windows in Munich

I'm not a Linux or anti-MS zealot by any means, but this is good from a competition perspective. The more inroads Linux makes into the MS monopoly, the better the competition, and the better products we all get (at better prices). While the sheer number and $$ involved is a drop in the bucket for MS (27 Million Euros is piddly cash to them), the fact that Ballmer himself campaigned hard for this shows MS is concerned.

Too bad that most copies of WinXPPro on non-OEM (Dell, Gateway, etc.) computers are bootlegged. All of my copies are legit ... used to not be, though.

The interesting part of the article (to me) is that the MS actually came up with an offer that was lower than the alternative, and yet the city decided to go the Linux route anyway "for strategic reasons". I know there's a lot of governments and institutions figuring out right now if they want to jump into the Linux world. Shrinking budgets are forcing a lot of companies and agencies to take another look at their expenditures to determine if Linux could be a cheaper alternative.

Competition = good, anyone who's purchased a processor in the last three years can certainly attest to that......

well it should elevate linux to higher level with more people contributing to it - always a good thing.
