Hey guys, I just got my new system, Epox 8K7A and a 1.2 GHZ Thunderbird. When I put in the processor, it says I only have a 900 mHz CPU! The defaults are all set just like i got the board new and thats what it said. I foudn that if you change the multiplier in the bios, it makes the CPU say its faster. but with the multiplyer set at 100 it says 900 MhZ. While I ordered a 1.2 ghz. Whats uP! ??

what's up is you have to set the jumper on the mobo to use the 133mhz fsb instead of 100mhz. the way it ships is set to 100mhz by default...and 9x100=900. once you set it to a 133mhz fsb it will be 9x133=1200...i thing it's JP1. as for the multiplier in the bios, i'm not sure what you are referring to since you cannot change the multiplier int he bios with that board...only with dip switches on the board itself

i'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the processor is "SUPPOSED" to be a 266MHZ, so how do i know if I got that right one ?. In the BIOS, theres the frequencey/CPU CLOCk. I changed the CPU clock and it makes it go faster.

the setting you are talking about in the bios is to change the fsb. trust me, if you didn't change any jumpers on the motherboard from when you got it, it is set to run on a 100mhz fsb, not 133mhz fsb (the 133mhz fsb is effectively 266mhz with the athlons). if you want to be really sure, take off the heatsink and look at the stuff engraved on the chip, there should be a line that starts with A1200 and ends with C, that means it is a 1200mhz 266mhz fsb cpu

Hi, sorry another question. I also have 256 MB of DDR PC2100 memory. Do I need to set this memory up with the motherboard also ??

there is no additional setup needed. by selecting the 133mhz fsb (effectively 266mhz fsb) it will run the memory at that speed (which is pc2100). you can tweak the memory timings in the bios for added performance, but it is not necessary.
