Can someone explain to me what Multiple VID means in reference to the new processors that Intel is producing now? I can't seem to find a good whitepaper on the subject.

This may explain it. Basically, intel is changing the vcore voltage. It can be anywhere from 1.475v to 1.5v (I believe).
What I get from it is that the yields are better in the batches these days and the chips don't need as much voltage to run at higher speeds. I could be completely wrong though.

I don't think there is any question that the yields are better.

Many of the chips (SL6RZ and SL6S2) are running over 3Ghz at
default vcore on air cooling.

;)

Thanks gooseman. I've been noticing a lot of talk lately about those chips that jhites mentioned in his reply. I guess when I get back from vacation and after I've paid some of my bills I'll look into getting one of those newer processors in hopes of overclocking the bejezus out of it! ;)

That's what I'm doing right now. Mr. UPS man just delivered a P4 2.4b C1 stepping with an S-code of SL6EF to my house this morning. So far (right now), I'm running it at 155Mhz FSB (2790Mhz) @ stock voltage. Well, my Asus P4B533-E overvolts a little so it says it is running at 1.6v. Seems stable. I ran 3dMark2001SE but have not tried Prime95 yet. My goal is to reach 3Ghz.

Should be easy enough to get to 3.0. Should be able to hit 3.1 even with a little voltage bump.

I think that I may be turning into a CPU junky.

Just bought another 2.53 SL6S2 Multiple VID today. :p
Fry's had 163 of them here in Austin.

All of the 68 2.4b's were BO stepping and I just got a SL6RZ the other day.
Guess they sold out of the good stuff. ;)
