Multiple monitors

I finally decided to try multiple monitors since I had an old crt laying around and its working fine in windows. Esp since I downloaded a program to extend the taskbar.

I assume it also works in linux, but I will have to probably configure it somehow as its not working at the moment.
1) is the above statement true?
2)Is multiple monitors really necessary since linux gives you multiple desktops?
Where with a click. I can spin my cube in linux and look at the other app.

thx for your imput and what do you find useful or annoying about multiple displays?

Since I received zero responses will pass on what I have learned to anyone else wondering.
there is a great little utility called YanC42 that edits xorg.conf for you and makes twinview a breeze to set up.

I had to also dl the .jar file and swap out the old .jar file for it to work.
