Multiple LCD's = Big LCD?

What's this term called and how can you do it? Is it a software or hardware thing. With 14" LCD's for <$100 a pop, I want to see if this is a viable way to have a cool looking and rather cheap all-in-one entertainment output device.

depending on your viedeocard and the resolution of your lcd. Im running dual 18.1 dell. watching dvd is awsome. 2560x1024. 🙂
But i don't like the gap in between

Very interesting. I know two lcd's can use some kind of nvidia technology, but what about those ideas we get that utilize more than 2 LCD panels. Anybody?

good for multitasking, poor for gaming that doesn't support it which is basically all games cept a flight sim or two. bad for video. a line down the middle of your video ruins it. if you can't afford two big big screens and need to multitask like crazy or just like dual display, get one big, one small. 2nd monitor ussually is for monitoroing stuff anywasys

Damn, nice.

Sold out though. I'm not sure I would like a 14" monitor, even if was a TFT LCD...

I only have a 15" CRT now, it just seems like it would be going back in time... lol

According to this spreadsheet it is 13.8" viewable. So in actuallity a 14" LCD would be an upgrade for you.😛
/me hangs head in shame

😛

I take it they decided not to be scumbags and actually label LCDs with the real viewable area?

That's good to know, although I had never thought about it..

Who started the whole advertised and viewable way of marketing CRTs, anyway? :frown:

probably just a mm or two larger i bet, but those are some big ass rebates.
I was thinking it may be 13.7" or 13.8".

doh, a few mm in the wrong direction😛 that lcd probably has a lousy response right? its alright for 100 dollars, but i wouldn't buy multiples for any heavy user. maybe ok as a secondary monitor.

LCD's can display edge to edge w/o distortion. Which is why there is only one measurement. You can see 'all' the screen and use it.

IIRC, CRT's distort as the picture is closer to the edges.... it's not a bezel size issue, it's an issue of the CRT design. The manuf. determine what the best usable area is of the CRT and call that the viewable size. They design the monitor casing to hide the area that's not practical to use.

I've never seen an LCD w/ a 'viewable' size different than the display size. The example above might have included the physical dimensions of the device, but, normally they use LxWxH and not diagonal for that, so, it makes no sense. I guess I'll ask if anyone has an example of a PC LCD that doesn't have 100% usable space as part of the design?

argh you trolls! Go start your own thread *ANGRY*...go yoink anothe rone, but not mine 😛. All in all, 9 might be overkill, but does anybody know if there's a way to combine, say 6 KDS rad-5's (I have 1), so that I have some widescreen goodness? Can somebody point me into the right direction? I don't recall the name for this either (active matix?). Argh, I would love to build some cool gaming rig that can utilize this funcitonality. Oh btw, the Nvidia thing that can use 2 screens and make them both viewable is called 'n-view'. I believe only the GF4 have them.

Yep. I have a 22" flat CRT with a 20" viewable so that maximum sharpness can be maintained over the entire viewable area.
