Multiple fatalities' in Florida shooting (Orlando)

Weird...I swear I replied to this. Yeah this had a disgruntled employee vibe to it. Will wait for more details...

This shit will never, ever end. There is no solution, there is no way to prevent it, so I guess it's just "you're in our thoughts and prayers" bullshit once again

I work about a mile or so from here...on my way in this morning I heard traffic was closed on that road so avoided it. My buddy who lives in Japan emailed to make sure me and family were ok lol! I then checked the news.

Yeah I figured it was very likely to be a workplace incident, disgruntled former employee etc. That area is low-rent industrial with small businesses and storage units, you couldn't pick a worse location for a terrorist attack. I thought a small chance of gang violence but as far as I know that area isn't known for it.

There's a reason Fark had a Florida tag. I've lived here most of my life and would love to get the *@#$# out...kids in school and wife with a real estate business makes it hard to just pick up and go!

So 5 killed plus the shooter. Now had their been the hint of terrorism, irrelevant of the source, we'd have ten pages of what should be done. But since we can't pin it on a religion we just throw our hands up and ignore the entire thing.

And in 2016, an avg of 26 fatalities per day from drunk driving alone, but that doesn't even make the local paper unless your town population is smaller than 200.

Nasty reality is, individual lives are pretty cheap. Ideologies are what make/break a civilization though.

And almost 145 deaths by drug overdoses a day in the US.

Who's ignoring it? Its in the news obviously. Also there isnt much you can do about a disgruntled employee. You just have to deal with it occassionally. But a religion is something you can try and deal with or reform perhaps.

That's a big perhaps.

The best way to reform religions is to develop faster-than-light travel and send off all the sky-fairy believers to their own planets, where they can practice whatever back-assward beliefs they like. Or, if they want to stay I'll go.

The best part of this plan is that they don't like science enough to make their way off-planet or develop advanced planet-killer weaponry once one of us is gone.

This post brought to you by an Evangelical relative's response to me when we attempted to have a political discussions....to paraphrase, "End Times were coming so what is the point of worrying about the future?" was her basic mindset....

I agree, but Christanity reformed over time from its brutal past. Although history may repeat itself on that one under Trump 😛

That depends on who you ask. The roots of a mindset run deep, very deep, and there's plenty of places in the US where you simply should not go if you don't have the appropriate skin tone (this applies to both religion and non-religious social constructs).

I moved out of a town in SC that in ... 2014? finally let you buy general (non-food, non-emergency) goods on Sunday before noon. Sales were previously banned, ostensibly because that's 'God's day' and you shouldn't be buying shirts when there's praisin' to be doin'. Still can't buy alcohol there on Sunday though. Can't have anyone heathening on the Lord's day.

And the problem here is you are looking at this from the wrong perspective. It's not about religion. It's about ignoring when these things occurs UNLESS it's a certain religion.

Or over-focusing on events on a relatively small scale (perception dependent of course), regardless of religious affiliation.
