As the topic title/summary says, does 3D performance take a hit at all when running multiple displays?

I think there's no performance hit (except maybe due to bugs with specific games).

At least, I haven't felt performance drop at all.

If the game is actually rendering images on the 2nd monitor, that's to be expected. I think the OP was referring to just a 2nd monitor which would still be your Windows desktop. I've used this set-up for a very long time to run various performance monitoring apps and system tools as well as Vent/TS so I can see who's talking etc.

There was a thread recently (past month or so) where someone said they observed performance being *better* after they disabled their 2nd monitor. May be some validity to the claim although I haven't tested it myself. Might be worth looking into though, as sometimes my benchmarks aren't consistent with published reports.

I've been running dual monitors as similar to chizow. i use it to monitor vent and guild info. I was using an HIS x800xl up until about a month ago. I had no issues what so ever with running dual monitors. I could drag crap back and forth and tab through windows, etc and didn't see a single problem - hell I was running two copies of WoW and still didn't see a problem. I upgraded to an HD3870. Now, if i drag a window (i.e. browser) from the second monitor to my primary, things get all jumping and basically, my system freaks out. So, my answer would be - it depends. Perhaps I have an isolated issue.
