Multiple ADSL modems

I heard from a friend of mine that a PC can have multiple USB ADSL modems at once. Correct?

Consider it is.
Will the system use all the modems' bandwidth simultaneously or just route to the less loaded one? In other word, will the total bandwith be the sum of all connections' or still limited by the maximum of each?

If one of the modems suddenly fails, what will happen to the connection which use the modem? Will it reroute to the other one or disconnected too?

My background is I'm planning on having a gateway for my net-cafe which's gonna use a new ADSL product. And after some considerations the choice of using multiple modems has many more benefits than the drawbacks.

Btw, in term of capability, stability and hardware reliability, can a laptop be used as a gateway server? Also can its PSU hold the power consumption of many USB modems?

Thanks in advance.

I have not tried more than one USB connection, and actually never use them, favoring ethernet.
As far as the bandwidth, you cannot aggregate a couple of connections to one server for a huge download, unless you own the server on the other end.
You can do load balancing and failover, but once again, I would not recommend using USB connections.

Take a look at this post and the links within.Link

As far as using a laptop, there are much better and elegant solutions.

I see.

Than, is there any ready to use software that capable of managing load balance? Any OS is fine.

Except it doesn't need to be plugged into a PC, why do USB modem is less preferable than the ethernet one? And may I know what is the more elegant solution?

I consider using a laptop because:
1. laptop uses less power consumption,
2. the size is very compact since the monitor and the battery are already included,
3. I already have one that can be used.

Though I doubt that the components are designed for 24/7 run.

Btw, I still need the answer of: what will happen to the connection if its modem suddenly fails? Just DC or can be automatically reroute?

Currently I avoid importing hardware from other country. The new government has made everything harder in order to reduce collusion and corruption. I won't know how long the good will be in my hand.

No such thing in my local store either. Eventhough there is, it must be intended for large company which is very expensive.

So I guess there's no software sollution for such thing.

Thanks anyway for the information.
