Multiplayer ps3 games?

I'm looking for some good multiplayer, on one console, games for the ps3. Party games, arcade games, anything really. I have pixeljunk racers and that's the most fun game I have for 4 players. My friends and I also enjoy nba 2k9, but are there any other good games out there for 2-4 players?

Super stardust team pack was a fun game, but it is pretty difficult so we can't play it for more than half an hour at a time without getting frustrated. Anything like this game but more classic 2d style like the games you could play on super nintendo?

Anything like gauntlet legends? Contra?

Basically just looking for something I can sit down with 1-3 other friends and play for a few hours. I don't think any of us are too into first person shooters, but any recommendations for any genre would be appreciated!
 
Here's an update with some info for people who had the same question as me. I did some research and found Marvel Alliance to be a pretty good 4 player gauntlet legends type of game. The graphics are definitely dated, but the gameplay is decent for 4 people and there are tons of fun characters to play.

Army of Two turned out to be a fun 2 player co-op game. My friend and I enjoyed it a lot and ended up beating it over the weekend.

Thanks for the Little Big Planet suggestion. Until this weekend, I didn't know that LBP was multiplayer so I will have to check that out.
