If most gaming is done online these days, what use is a benchmark which tests only offline play? Who cares if a 7800GTX/X1800XT averages so-and-so frames in BF2 single player - no one here plays BF2 single player!

While it's true that you're looking at the same engine weather on-line or off, the fact of the matter is that it's a different situation and unexpected things happen; take for example how X2 processors supposedly greatly outperform single cores in crowded multiplayer games, while performing far closer to single cores offline. Of course, this effect has not been quantitively validated - as there is no quantifiable way to measure online performance - but it has been widely reported by gamers owning both high-end single and dual core processors.

I think an on-line benchmarking method needs to be developed.
