Multimedia system

Looking to build a system to do multimedia presentations and amitor vedio editting on. Have an aversion to buying ready made kit so would like to spec out the machine and build it myself.

After reading the Athlon XP review, it looks like a good candidate. would use a Via ddr solution, likely ASUS as have had good luck with them. Thinking a SCSI raid drive system might be good for speed.

Video? Have used ATI all in wonder and ASUS 7700 Deluxe. What do I need?

Sound? No clue hear either.

Other devices?

Thanks and have fun.😀

Via is a good idea since it is the best performer currently available, but you might be waiting a while for ASUS since they are always a little slower than the competitors to get the product out.

ATI still makes the All-in-Wonder, it is just based on the Radeon chipset currently. This is okay for an inexpensive video capture solution, but if you dedicated video capture, it's gonna cost. There are several video cards with VIVO based on the GeForce 3 chipset that are comparable to the ATI AIW, so those could be considered as well. ASUS makes one of them, but the 2D isn't so hot on it.

Creative Audigy is the latest and greatest and has several different trim levels available. Also check out the nForce motherboards when they come out because of their high quality onboard sound. Then you wouldn't have to buy a separate sound card.

Saw Asus MoBo on preorder somewhere.

Who makes a good G-3 video card with all the features? Have used Elsa with good luck but they don't do the deluxe. Asus makes an acceptable card.

If I wanted dedicaded, where should I look? I don't know what the budget is yet.
