MultiCore Processors

When was the first multicore processor released...I know it wasnt recently because I saw some Dual Core xeons 2 months ago and im wondering when the first one was released

AMD released its dual cores in May 2005 I believe...Intel paper launched their smithfield design around same time, but released them to the masses a bit later. AMD released opterons and business cpus first with desktops later...Both around 3Q of 2005....
