Multi-threaded MP3 encoding possible? Available?

I was curious if I could cut my encoding time for MP3's by using a multi-threaded encoder, however I am not even sure if this is possible, and if so, if any are available. I normally use LAME, is there any way to switch this over for dual/quad proc operation? (Even on a single track?)

Well I've never done encoding in the Windows world... but my linux encoder front end (grip) will let you run more instances of the encoder. So basically I encode two tracks at once.

I would imagine if you can find an encoder that runs from the command line you can run two instances of it. Or you may even be able to run two instances of a graphical one?

Good idea. I've found a couple that work with multiple instances, however I was intending to encode movie audio with this, so I wanted to concentrate all threads on 1 file at a time. I've looked for linux encoders too and haven't had much luck. There's reference made to an encoder by the name of "mightydac" on the net that claims to do this, however it's nowhere to be found. Even the makers of the software have only their newest ripping program on their page, which does not support SMP. If I knew anything at all about programming, this would be my challenge. 🙂 Off to look some more...
