Multi-Monitor with Freesync/G-Sync

Anyone know if you can run Eyefinity/Surround with Freesync/G-Sync enabled on only the center monitor? I've been playing around with the idea of a 34" Ultrawide as the center monitor with a 27" 1440p monitor on each side. Seems like someone at AMD said all the monitors need to be the same but I'm not sure. Also not sure if G-Sync has that capability.

Looks like, for G-sync at least, you cannot mix...

If you get a mixed setup (1 GSYNC, 2 non-GSYNC), you can play either 1-monitor GSYNC or 3-monitor surround non-GSYNC.

:\ I think it's the same story with AMD. Doesn't make much sense than to grab two 27" monitors if I can only use the center monitor for gaming. Thanks for the info.

The downsides of being an early adopter to new technology...

Will be interesting if they plan to support that, and how they would go about doing it.

That sounds like it might just be impossible to support.

Since the frame is drawn as if the display is one monitor, keeping frame pacing in sync (in reference to delivery to the monitor) and having to control a monitor's frame rate is a step that, mixed in with sending separate frame sections to other monitors, would make for one hell of a mess.

Perhaps it's possible with an extremely convoluted system, but I don't suspect so. Perhaps, in the distant future, if the G Sync approach, if not G Sync entirely, continues to stick around, then it might be able to support that given further revisions.

Not sure if what you want, but control panel give me option to span monitors over non-gsync ones. Not sure if just for desktop or gaming though.

It prob just disables Gsync on my center monitor though.

That source was from a year ago, G-sync does support it in Surround now, just as long as you have 3 DP connections on your video card(s).

That isn't what Elfear is looking for, he wants to mix G-sync and non-G-sync together and game with G-sync on the capable one while still keeping the other two as flanking screens (I assume with no syncing or v-sync on those two monitors).

*Replace G-sync with Free-sync for that scenario...

Exactly. Unless A-Sync will work with different monitors in surround (which doesn't sound possible at this point), then the next best thing is A-Sync on the center monitor and non A-Sync on the sides. Sounds like that isn't possible either and I'm pretty set on a 34" Ultrawide for the center monitor. So I'll patiently wait until mixed monitor A-Sync is supported by either vendor.

I don't think that will ever happen as it would put frames out of sync all the time. What will most likely happen is eventually all displays come with some form of adaptive sync (or its successor) support and then you just don't have think about it.

In the meantime, if you want to use G-Sync or Freesync, you need either enough displays that support it or just use one.
