/me hugs his Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W.

4 years now and still on the original toner. Yes it's noisy, yes the lights in the room dim when the heating element in the drum kicks on, but it just keeps spitting out page after page after page. Great little printer.

Remember the Okidata ML320? Now that was a printer. Anything from Lexmark or Epson has been on my do not want list for a long time, HP has been added recently as well.

I'm glad I don't need to make color prints. I'm OK with just a cheap personal laser and generic toner carts for $25. Sure beats the ripoff machine. For you guys who have to print color or photos, best wishes to you. Sucks.

seriously. I have a brother laser printer that works fine, and it's been pretty good about ink.

I feel for those space limited who need an all in one or have a need for a color printer. I feel for you :(

My next printer will just be some black and white laser. They're way cheaper in the long run.

Color is not really something I need.

Awesome job printer companies. Everyone is going back to black and white like the 80s. They must be so proud.

Wasn't there a class action lawsuit against Epson that was settled a few years ago regarding this issue?

I bought a HP laser printer for ~$110 3 years ago. I replace the toner cartridge for about $60 once a year (after 1,000-2,000 pages), it prints quickly, and I haven't had a single problem with it. Compare to the crappy ink jet printers from Epson and Canon I bought in the years before which either broke (usually the auto feeder), wouldn't let me print in black and white if color cartridges were empty, and cost at least $200 in ink a year with less printing than I do now.

Heh, the first time I learned about this I was printing out a school assignment the morning of the day that it was due. Plenty of black ink but wouldn't print because of no Cyan or some other color. Bullshit. Epson too.

I now use a laser printer, to hell with inkjets.

I'm not a fan of Epson. Once your printer has printed a certain number of pages (say 1000), the printer will lock up and demand to be taken in for servicing, despite not needing any servicing what so ever (an awkward button combination on the device resets this.)

Total scam, most people will believe there's something wrong with the printer and pay a ridiculous servicing fee.

Most bubblejet printers are crap. I mean sure you can get about 20 quality photos out of it, after that it's not even worth paying for the ink. And 20 is not even an exaggeration either.

Laser all the way. I rather pay more knowing it will serve me better in the long run. I don't even print that much but I bought a Brother scanner/copier/printer and it's been great. I use mostly the scan feature but occasionally need to print or photocopy stuff so it's great to have. Also has fax functionality but I have not set that up or have the need to. I can see myself use it more once I start working on big house projects like my server room as I will want to print out autocad blueprints.

This is why I have a laser. I got tired of all the ink replacement for my college work. This is far more efficient and in one college semester already paid for itself in ink savings.

Yep I went through almost 3 years of college on 1/3 of a toner cartridge! (one that comes with printer) That's printing some huge 500 page documents and what not. Replaced the toner half way through 3rd year, and I could of kept using it but my final reports would of been a little too gray looking. :p You can only shake it so much.

The last Epson I owned was a preeow - tastic wide format dot matrix unit, and thanks to their behavior starting in the early 2000s, it will be the last one I ever own. I have a brother B&W laser now and the total cost of ownership is next to nothing and the reliability is stellar.

Screw inkjet companies and their razor blade filled printers.

Everyone with a printer like this should send a profanity laden tirade to the company responsible. Not only will you feel a little better, if enough people do it they may end the obnoxious practice.

My parents still use their HP laserjet 5p from 1996 at home. They print quite a bit of stuff and go through about one toner cart a year. The bottom feeder has been broken since about 2000, but the top feeder still works fine.

I've got an HP Deskjet 6122 from years and years ago and it's still the best inkjet I've ever used. It's fast, it'll attempt to print even with dry carts, and it's got a duplexer (which is totally rad).

I have an epson..
stylus photo R200 ... use it to print directly to my cd/dvd's .. as well as other printing projects

i've printed WAY over 1,000 sheets... probably closer to 5,000 ... and never had it tell me that.

Ink is cheap too... i get a 6pack of ink from SuperMediaStore for less than $20

It should never be cheaper to buy a whole new printer WITH INK than it is to buy just ink :^S

I remember a couple of years back my father wanted to use an older HP printer in his office. He went to buy ink for the thing and found out that it was going to cost him $75 to get it up and running again. Instead he bought a brand new all in one printer, scanner, copier for a little under $100. He probably could have gotten one for less than the price of the ink for the old one too.
