Lost Wishes
Gateway
3 Kingdoms
Muddog
LustyMud
Genocide

what i'm wondering is, did the mudders grow up or did they move on to mmorpgs?

i still occasion some of the old mud stomping grounds when i'm bored at work (all that typing makes you look busy!) but i tried ffxi and just couldn't get into it, it was so slow.

I moved on. Once I played EQ and DAoC, I coudlnt' go back to the text based ones. They were great while they lasted though...

They were great back in the day because there were no MMORPGs to compete with. Nowadays, everything seems to be about graphics. You tell someone they should play this fun text-only game thats like Everquest without graphics and they'll look like you are crazy. Play a game with no graphics? No way!

I've tried out Everquest, Asherons Call, and Dark Age of Camelot. None of them could even hold a candle to even the worst MUD. MUDs were great because you could do so much more complex stuff in them without having to deal with graphics. If you take any of the MMORPGs and just strip away the graphics to look at the game beneath, they are all extremely simplistic. It almost makes me mad really. There were some really cool and innovate muds out there that are gone now since the trend in games is too focus on graphics first, content second, yet people still buy into it.

Yup. Graphics could never sufficiently convey the satisfaction you get when:
