Much more performance with cas2?

I wonder if running memory at cas2 is noticable, or is it only when running benchmarks you notice it?

While it was just a small percentage points better in my testing of a divx encoding it did mean about 7-8 minutes which adds up....It may be more inn gaming...ask thugsrook as i rarely game

1.6@2.64ghz w/ 440mhz cas 2.5,3,3,6 = 1.6@2.72ghz w/ 340mhz cas 2,2,3,6

1.6@2.736ghz w/ 342mhz ddr cas 2.5,3,3,6 didn't beat or equal the time of the 1.6@2.64ghz....

I estimated I would have need 2.752-2.768 to equal it...so about 2-3 precent with divx encoding...noticeable only cause there was a clock otherwise maybe not noticeable or neglible in most things...

Duvie, I'm a bit confused by your reply. Looking at your comparison

1.6@2.64ghz w/ 440mhz cas 2.5,3,3,6 = 1.6@2.72ghz w/ 340mhz cas 2,2,3,6

It basically states that bandwidth is king over CAS setting with P4s (which I always figured anyways). So you're better off running a higher MHz/higher CAs setting then a lower MHz/lower CAS setting. Granted, if your memory can't hit higher freq, then you're better off with the lower CAS setting...

Correct me if I'm wrong?

I am showing in that app that bandwdith was kingg as it took me to oc the cpu 80 more mhz to equals it ability....

You are right once I got past 440fzb I could no longer reliably run the memroy even at lowest cas settings.....

I am giving a bandwidth versus cpu comparison but the second line shows that at same lower speed 340mhz ddr cas2.5 to cas 2 made a slight difference...2-3percent....saw this as about the same in mp3 encoding and autocadd2000 rendering...

Every system runs a little different, but this is what I found personally works for my 6 computers.

High fsb speeds even with relaxed or compromised memory timings tend to give better benchmarks.

Lower speeds with strictest timings tend to be faster in real world applications.

So I like to run the highest fsb or memory speeds possible while still maintaining the fastest timings.

What if you're not changing the FSB? What about changing the DRAM settings at the same memory speed?

Well then definitely agressive memory timings will be better.

cas settings will depend on WHAT APPS YOU ARE USING.

every app will like faster cas settings~
not every app will like more bandwidth~
having both would be best~

see my sig?
if i drop the cas settings to their lamest settings ~ ill need to run 168fsb to match my current "gaming" scores.
divx encoding (etc) would rather have more cpu mhz & faster cas settings ~ bandwidth isnt as important to it.

<it will depend on your app>
