I've been having major problems with my new setup and think i have narrowed it down to either CPU or mobo. I currently have an MSI Turbo Raid, duron 850 (not oc/ed), 512mb pc133 micron cas3, matrox g400, philips acoustic edge (ugh, many problems with it too), pioneer 16x slotin, plextor 16x10x40a, um 2 maxtor hd's, smc 10/100 nic.. my problem is just general stability, as well as VERY long win2k bootup issues, AND sound card problems ranging from audio playing on through left speakers, or sever studdering/static feedback while playing an audio file and doing ANYTHING else, including menial tasks such as closing a program or even minimizing it.

My old system , bh6 300a/450 was a rock solid machine.. NEVER had probs with it. I thought i'd give amd and a few other new parts a chance, but so far i've been disgusted.. maybe its just me..

ANyhow, I really want to get a p3 board now.. any recommendations for stability/features/combatiblity would be appreciated.

Along with any other suggestions for my current probs.

Thanks

Ok, what PS you got? Is it 300W and AMD approved?
What about the HSF? What you got?
The sound card is good. You might check with ppl where can U get the latest drivers, etc.
Let us know what you got, that might be easier? Have you checked the TEMP? Its not running too hot? You system just locks up?
Check the temp.

Thanks for the quick response

Its a 300w powersupply (it may not be amd approved), it came with my Asus Elan Vital case. I have hte loud Global Win FOP-38 HSF.

Um, ram is amd approved, micron brand cas3 2x256.. It doesn't really ever lockup, just runs really slow in comparison to my celery 300a/450+bh6 combo.. I got the absolutely latest philips drivers last night, but still no luck.. Hint (this is my second philips card, doing the same thing, tried out my friends sblive value and it did the same thing though not as bad, also my philips works flawlessly on my friends abit kt7a board+850 duron) I had an Abit KT7a-raid board before this, but it had some crazy ide chain problems.. So i sent it back twice and got it replaced with this msi board.

I am running win2k SP2 and the latest via chipset 4n1 drivers also. If i can go in to any more detail please ask, i really wanna get this thing figured out, i just want it to run the way its supposed to, and espeically i want that stupid sound card to be able to play sound and not studder (it effects the games also, slows them down when it starts studdering).

Thanks again

One other question.. I was reading some other posts for SLOT 1 p3 board suggestions.. Are there any FC-PPGA P3 board suggestions?

Thanks..

Have you tried different PCI slots?
Any IRQ conflicts?
It might not be the sound card... Since you tested different sound card.

For FC-PPGA P3 mobos there lots of good boards, Abits, Asus, Soyo, etc. But i think the best are Abits(SA6R, VH62, etc) and Asus (CUSL, CUV4X, etc). I think those are pretty good mobos for P3 FC-PPGA.
