MTV's boiling point.

Yeah, so I was bored and devolved into watching MTV....it's not something I'm proud of.

Apparently there's a show called "Boiling Point". Basically MTV candidly sets up some believable but extremely aggravting situations involving normal unsuspecting people. For example, a flea merchant sells an item for $5 to a normal person, but an actor comes and buys the exact object for $10, after the money/item exchange has already happened with the normal person. The flea merchant gives the object to the actor and tells the normal person to pick something else out, 'cause he doesn't give refunds. Certainly you can imagine how pissed some people would get.

The idea is that the normal person needs to keep calm for a certain amount of time. Keeping calm means not threating to get the authorities involved, no swearing, no physical threats, no leaving the scene in frustration, etc...of course, they have no idea. If they can keep calm they get $100.

Is it just me, or has anyone else seen this and noticed that after each time the normal people (even the ones that don't keep calm) are invariably smiling and embarrased, but happy, etc... I'm sorry, but $100 or not, I'm pretty sure I would be fvckin irate in most of these situations.

...they must have to go through alot of film and normal people to get the reactions they want.

...hmmm, this post has no real point. Just an observation.

when i watch that show, after the 15 minutes or whatever is up, you see the people who didnt get the $100 laughing and saying "'i cant believe i fell for that!". uhm, how about being pissed because they just wasted 15 minutes of your day for a damn reality show??!? they must be giving them some kind of consolation prize or something... i dont get it... unless people are truly that starved for their 15 minutes of fame.

Ha! Yeah, I would be pissed that they forced me to waste my alotted 15 minutes of fame.

you have no idea how you'd really react unless you're put into that situation... cameras everywhere and actors everywhere laughing and clapping. I'm not so sure you'd be as irate as you believe.

Hmmm, I guess I don't know how I would react with people clapping....didn't think about that. But I know I HAVE been in ridiculous situations akin to those before (most people probably have), but without the clapping extras.....I usually get pissed off.

That show's funny as hell. Some of the stuff they do makes you wonder though if some of it is staged. One of my favorite episodes probably was the fat guy bagging groceries.

My brother and his friends were in on a gag to get a friend to parachute with a big man duct taped to her. She freaked out but took to long so they couldnt use the footage. Boiling point didn't allow them to tape it though, the friend doesn't talk to any of them anymore heh.
