U of I's Engineering school is supposed to be one of the best around.

People that haven't heard of UIUC are stupid. It's a pretty well known school. I disagree about the graduate rankings meaning something significant for its undergraduate status, but it's still a good school. However, I'd agree that it's great graduate program does help in its overall reputation. For undergrad (if you could choose any university under equal conditions), I would go to the one with the best overall reputation.

I would choose UIUC over MSOE without even thinking about it.

Yeah, I am quite confused as to why this thread even exists. :) I, along with most everyone here, have never heard of MSOE and I don't think it's close to being ranked for anything. On the other hand UIUC is a top 5 engineering school in the country.

IF you consider the reputations of the schools to be similar I would pick U of I because I would think it would be more enjoyable as a whole. You need to have a balance of social life and academics. Illinois is a respected and well known school around the country.

UIUC without a doubt. It's a nice big, diverse university and I think beats the
vastly engineering college atmosphers. Plus the grad option is a plus...even
if you don't decide to go to grad school in UIUC, I think a degree would from
there would be more attractive at other schools.

But just on a side note, the network here is utter crap. It's only 10mbit (slow)
ports in the dorms, rate limiting (you can only download/upload like ~650 megs in
a sliding 24 hour window) and goes down sometimes. The school
is just too big for an ideal network until they overhaul everything.

Oh the network isn't that bad. 600 MB/24 hrs, then additional 150 MB/24 hr at 128 Kbps. I've been getting great DL speeds all year.

Are you going to school to go on to a graduate program, or to get a job based on reputation. Then UIUC is for you. Their graduate programs are top-notch. However, thier grad programs take precedent over their undergrad.

MSOE, on the other hand, has a much better undergrad program. If you are looking to get the most out of your undergrad, choose MSOE.

Count in other factors. MSOE is going to be swarming with geeks. UIUC is 35,000 people with lots of hot women, good sporting events, and bars.
