It depends on your definition of "illegal". But to answer your question, yes...MS didn't intend for this build to get into the wild, and have already "politely" asked several sites that were hosting it to remove it from their servers.

It hasn't been released yet. Which would be somewhat unusual if they did, since Messenger has never publicly shipped a beta before. But as I understand, they're getting close to gold. If you can't wait, and you don't mind buggy beta software, Google is your friend...

so, they finally have features that AIM had like years ago. And on top of that, it has a much clunkier and in the way interface. Leave it to MS....

Not bad, when you customize it the way you want and remove the ads, it's alright. Not a whole hell of a lot better than previous versions though. I'll still be sticking to Miranda as my full fledged primary IM program.
