Is there a way to send messages too and from each of them? I like MSN because it tells me when an email shows up in my hotmail account, but it would be nice to be able to send messages out to other services as well.

I doubt it. They are both separate instant messaging systems and in no way corellated (sp?) with each other.

They should be able to send to each other with all the hell they raise over AOL's AIM not accepting messages from other programs.

Try Odigo. Do a search for it under download.com.

That might have what your looking for.

I was hoping that I could just use MSN IM and send messages to Yahoo IM without installing something else. Since all the non-AIM IM services whine about not being about to send messages to AIM, I would have thought that they would support each other.

When I tried to add the Yahoo user, I received a message about no "Passport". Maybe they just have to sign up for that service ...

Well, this is one area that Microsoft should win it's battle in. It has been trying for the past year or so to get AOL to migrate to an open standard for IM.
