MSN gone the way of ICQ?

Keeping in mind that AIM never really caught on here, ICQ was the dominant IM program for the '90s, and was replaced by MSN for most of the '00s. All of my friends were on MSN at one point, and my online contact list was pretty long.

Now there are 3 "friends" online on msn, and 2 of them I haven't talked to in years. I can't remember the last time I chatted on ICQ.

Is msn gone the way of ICQ now? I guess everyone's moved over to facebook.

MSN was always more popular than AIM in the rest of the world. AIM only dominated primarily in North America.

I've found I only use MSN to talk to one of the people on my list of about 70 people in the past 2 years. In high school I used to talk to lots of people on it. I think MSN is becoming useless, for me anyway. I guess some people probably have groups of friends still on it.

Everyone I know does seem to be on facebook, but I really dont like the idea of having a facebook account so I guess I'm out.

Everyone seems to have moved to Facebook here. I rarely have more than 2 or 3 people online on my AIM list anymore (whenever I bother to log in).

Me and my friends still use MSN. Everybody's not online as often as they used to be and we don't talk as much. Maybe it's because of facebook or maybe it's just because we're getting older.

Neither AIM or ICQ ever caught on here.

It seems to me the rest of the world is a little slow in figuring out how to use programs that are not pre-installed on the computer. thats why the EU had to go after msft for anti-trust violations for bundling IE. :p

Everyone in the countries I've been to in Asia over the last few years has an MSN/Live Messenger account. Seen Yahoo IM around in a few internet cafes, but mostly for being used by people looking to hook up rather than chat with friends. Everyone getting on facebook now as well, but it's certainly not as popular for chatting. Facebook is mostly wall updates and a time killer with the games.

Right, you're using AOL software and we're the slow ones. BTW I don't know about Vista but MSN doesn't come with Windows 7, it comes with the Windows Live Essentials, a separate downloadable package.

I've never found a multi protocol client that wasn't a steaming pile of dog shit.

I used ICQ for a long time and almost never us any IM these days short of trillian since it lets you contact anyone on almost any IM in one program.

Unfortunately. Quite a few people I know have decided to txt EVERYTHING instead of just calling. etc.

So much for MSN messenger.

I still use it though.

there's only a few people I know that use AIM or MSN anymore...everyone else uses facebook. It wasn't that long ago that everyone I talked to in HS was on AIM/MSN.

Eh, its not as bad as trillian which is bloated to shit.

Miranda is way way too, minimalistic I guess I would say; I didn't like it.

I've been using Pidgin for at least 5 or 6 years now... back when it was still called gaim.

Also I prefer MSN > Aim as far as I'm concerned. It's easier to remember addresses rather than some stupid shit screenname.

And the only chat I use is Google Talk. As almost everyone I know has a gmail account, gtalk makes the most sense.

I haven't used a personal IM client in years... facebook has pretty much replaced AIM/MSN for me and my friends.

AIM is popular again because it's bundled with a lot of cell phones. I think everyone at both of my kids schools use it.
