MSN Free email?

Is the msn.com consider a free email address now? I was going though the windows messenger, and it creates a userid@msn.com email address. So, will msn.com be consider free email like hotmail is? I know you can't use aol, hotmail, yahoo addresses on this forum.

Then why don't they allow you to register a msn.com address through the web instead of just hotmail.com only. You have to use msn 8 or msn windows messenger to get it.

The reason this forum doesn't allow the ones mentioned is to keep a higher degree of people here. Not meaning finacially but I personally give out of bogus email ads for things so I don't get spammed or I just don't want them to know who I am.
Rest assured they do know who you are here or can find out very quickly. Buy using a correct email it sort of validates you in a small way.
Meaning the email from your isp.

That is what sets Anandtech aside from the others.🙂

Technically, MSN is free email address, since you don't need to pay for it. So will this Anandtech Forum block it soon?

There is a difference tho..

People who had MSN accounts with them have blahblah@msn.com while people who signup for the Hotmail has @hotmail.com

I've had DSL with MSN like a year ago... and I still have my email address that I use
I no longer have MSN DSL hence it's a free account ..

but afaik you can't sign up for @msn.com unless you have a paying dialup service, dsl, cable service from MSN..

I signed up for msn a while back and got an msn address. I canceled the service and wanted to continue using the email address (after all, you could get one for free through msn explorer/windows messenger). After I canceled I could send mail but could not receive mail. They told me to enable full functionality to the email account I would have to become a paying customer again.

Man, it seems like Microsoft makes things complicated here.
