Spend $400 (so far so good)........sign up for 3 years MSN internet access (i hate my current isp so this works for me).......get an additional $400 credit to shop with?

am i missing something here? seems like a good deal if you're dropping some cash at best buy and don't mind signing up for MSN.......is there a down side?

Noooooooooo!!!!

1. Get out your calculator and multiply 21.95 by 36. That's a whole lot more than 400. You end up paying back almost 2X what you get up front.

2. Do you really think that you'll be using dial up in 3 years? Dial up is so slow you won't want to be using it in 3 years. That's one reason they are pushing it so hard now. They want people to sign up before they realize what they will be missing.

3. You can use a free ISP so the argument that you have to pay for internet access is invalid. The only reason you might have to pay for an isp is if the free ISP's don't have a local number for you. If this applies to you, I would still bet you can do better than $20 a month by checking out your local ISP's.

Don't do it!! You'll regret it later.

Soldat, PCWorld put the 3-year MSN contract price @ $762. That's a sh!t load to pay for internet service. Even if you hate your current ISP, it isn't worth the $400 "savings" that they're throwing at you right now. Besides, $21.95 a month for dial-up internet service is a lot. Some people are even getting DSL service for less than that! And you'll be locked into paying that each month for three years, when you can get dialup for about $10 right now. Some services even offer if for free (if you can deal with ads, I do). Besides, dialup prices keep dropping, and who knows, in two years all dialup might be free while MSN people are paying $21.95 a month for a whole 'nother year. I'd suggest you just switch ISP now, or even look into DSL or cable if it's offered in your area. It most likely will be more than $22 a month, but for one it's worth it (speed & connectivity), you don't need to sign a contract (most of the time), and it will go down in the coming year to about the price you pay for dialup right now.;)

here is how much you will pay if you take the rebate dude
you will have MSN for 1095 days
12 months per year
12*3= 36 months
36*21.95=and you pay a total of 790.20 total for your "deal" does that sound good now?

though i heard before that if you are in CA there is a law that allows you to cancel your contract whenever you want, even the contract says you will be penalized. i guess the law stated that companies have no right to restrict people in doing that or so i recall.
