msinfo32 won't start

Not sure if this is the right section of the forums, but perhaps you can help anyways.

I can't get msinfo32 to run. The hourglass appears for a second, then it goes away...and...that's it. Nothing happens. Same with my AV program.

I really need this to work so I can send the report to valve/steam.

1) download this text file and get the manual McAfee scanner mentioned. Unzip it as directed.

2) reboot into Safe Mode and run the scan. The scan window will close itself when it's done.

3) PM me the results from the C:\Report.html file after you reboot into normal Windows again.


What antivirus software do you presently use, anyway? Also, what version and SP of Windows, and what firewall(s) do you use? since this sounds like an infection situation.

We're running the newest version of Avast! which runs fine in protecting the computer, but the actual computer virus scanner part of it wont start.

The firewall...um, just the one that's on XP.

Yeah, Avast! and Spybot (which i know search for different things) surprisingly came up with no errors on the comptuer...hmm...oh, there is like some crappy version of the avast scanner thats in the avast folder, so maybe it just couldnt pick anything up...i dunno. I just cant get the main (real) avast program running.

I'll pm you the report when i get it.
