MSIEXEC.EXE error when installing Streets and Trips 2006

I am not sure if this is an OS issue but here goes...

I run XP-PRO sp2 and have Streets and Trips 2005 installed without a problem. I got Streets and Trips 2006 and when I try to install it I get a popup from Norton 2005 saying that it found a Malicious Script. MSIEXEC.EXE Activity Reg Delete

I did have NAV auto protect disabled during the install. When I tell it to stop the script, the install continues but never completes. At that point S&T 2005 is gone. I can re-install S&T 2005 without a problem. I have no problems installing other programs.

So, does anyone know if NAV and Streets and Trips 2006 have an issue? S&T 2006 just came out.

TIA

Not sure I dare try this but...

I read somewhere that Norton, by default, has script blocking on, and calls all of these scripts Malicious. I should not be afraid of installing an MS product and it is OK to tell NAV to allow this script to run ONCE. Still, not sure if I should do this. Still waiting to see if anyone else has had this.

Also, if it were a real issue, would the XP Malicious software monthly update flag it? It seems funny that only Norton complains.

I did disable auto-protect, but I guess that does not disable Script blocking.

Why not just disable NAV during the install?

My brother had a VERY similar issue last week with S&T 2006.

This is a reply he sent me:

"It took me three hours to figure this one out, you actually have to run
regedit, right click on hkey_classes_root click -> permissions, click on the
Add button then add Administrators check Allow box for full control and read.
Click the Add button again and add SYSTEM and again check Allow box for full
control and read.
Rerun setup and you are set. "

Try at your own risk of course!

OK, I will try. I did see a post just a bit ago on the streets-trips NewsGooup and several have said they had to disable script blocking in NAV. The person said he had a laptop with McAfee and it was OK, so he blames NAV.

I can try this, as well.

Now I wonder if there is a cheap USB2 GPS that will work on my Laptop?

Thank you,

Dave

FYI I've also got McAfee virus scan enterprise 8 (which also has script blocking) and I didnt run into any problems installing it. If turning off script blocking in NAV is all it takes than that's what I would do.

I'm having a tough time finding them online. When I got S&T 2005 I got the package that included the GPS reciever; it works fine with 2006 so I havent looked into them in a long time.

Thanks Erik, I may just disable script blocking and give it a try!

I have seen a few GPS receivers but they are not inexpensive.
