MSIE Long Delay Sending URL Request

Good Lord, don't I wish!? Simply connecting via POTS at about 40,000bps. Netscape seems to work fine (well, as good as usual, anyway). It has no delay sending the request. Seems that something is way screwed up in my registry or something. I don't have a clue how to blow away all the settings and start from scratch. Uh, short of reformatting etc. :Q

SOB! I think I figured it out, (knock wood). I just got a popup asking if I wanted to update MS Instant Messenger. WTF? I didn't even install it that I know of! I looked in the Add/Remove programs and there it was to uninstall, so I did. Rebooted and all seems well. Damn, I've been fighting with this for a while...

Edit: Ach, nevermind, still acting up... :|

Thanks HONKER24, this looks promising. I've used Modem Wizard before. It may even be what screwed things up. It's been uninstalled, but the problems persisted. I installed MSpeed and it found several dll files that were write protected. I "unprotected" them and let them get overwritten. The install didn't work quite right, so I reinstalled it. It said some system files were out ogf date and offered to replace them. Hey, no problem, I'll try anything!

After the reboot, I started MSpeed and selected 56K download option. It's working fine right now, but I attribute this more to getting rid of screwy dll files and such, as much as reworking the rwin and MTU settings.

I also blew away the file logging for the modem. One of the errors that MSpeed came up with on the first install was that logging may not function correctly due to certain dll files being corrupted during the installation.

We're going out to dinner now, but I'm going to wring this out when I get back. Thanks loads for the help, it's looking good so far!
