MSIE browser wont refresh automatically

I have MSIE 6.0 and my operating system is Windows XP Pro. I had some problems yesterday and they are taken care of. I was searching for a lian li case on ebay and I noticed nothing had been listed since yesterday so I hit refresh and a few things had been listed. Same with anandtech, I have to click the refresh button to see new posts otherwise, it stays the same from the last time I was here. It does this with all web pages by the way. I went into tools/internet options/advanced and restored defaults, I also did it in the Privacy & security sections, nothings changed. What could cause this?

I used windows update yesterday too, everythings up to date.

I've heard of this happening before. I think you have to clear your cookies. There is something in there that is grabbing old info.

IE's cache has problems. I use CacheSentry to maintain the cache myself. Clear your Temporary Internet Files, clear your cookies. You may even want to log into another admin account and just delete everything in the Temporary Internet Files folder for your account, since clearing them in IE doesn't always actually delete everything.

I have cleared the cookies & internet files and I still have the same problem. I even cleared the cookies and internet files from mozilla. One thing I don't understand is when I go into Temporary internet files/settings and click "view files" it says there are over 700 objects inside? should this be just about empty? Under "view objects" I find 9 files. Am I doing something wrong?

Finally got it to show no files under "view files". Still not able to get it to automatically refresh. How much disk space should my temporary internet files folder have?

Make sure under tool/internet options you have it set to automtically or every visit to the page.

I found it this morning, that was the problem. I can't believe it was right in front of me the whole time and I didn't see it. 😱

Just goes to show it's always best to start from scratch, even if it seems like there's no way something simple could be the problem.
