MSI x99 Godlike Gaming Carbon cold boot "overclock failed"

Hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction, I've been having an issue with my board where it will display an "overclock failed, blah blah blah" message whenever I boot it after having power physically removed from the PSU.

It does this even at stock\all auto settings as well so I don't think it is OC related. I've run my OC with HCI 1000% coverage, realbench, and even AVX prime95 over 8 hours with no offset and everything passes. Only crash I've had on this system was ethminer hanging the display driver.

I haven't probed the CMOS battery yet, but I fail to see why that'd be dead in a newer board; I'll pull out the DMM when I get home regardless.

In the interim has anyone experienced similar issues?

CMOS battery looks good, replaced it anyway. Also swapped the 1000w EVGA for a 1200w EVGA unit from a mining rig since the modular cables are easily swapped.

Still having cold boot issues from an unpowered state. Grrr.

Sounds like a board problem.

Sounds like a board problem.

Seems that way, but the board is solid otherwise. I'm thinking maybe it is a bios setting, something I'm overlooking or unfamiliar with as a historically AMD user. Hoping for some insight here.
I've had weeks of continuous uptime in this board, so it's very strange that this rig only has an issue if I remove mains power.

Hey sry didnt expect such a quick reply. U can get it on the MSI FTP. http://msi-ftp.de:8080 and then Bios -> X99 -> 7883_2.75.zip file.

From the changelog:
Fix system OC fail issue after AC power loss when set M.2 PCH Strap item to M.2 PCH PCIE under overclocking setting.

Man I don't know where you came from but I can't thank you enough, flashing and running it from the secondary bios slot fixed it. I had come to accept this as a quirk I'd have to live with, that's some real guardian angel level stuff you've pulled!

That changelog also clued me on to a another issue with 2.6, changing the M.2 Mode will randomly cause OC Fail messages for me even from a clean CMOS reset; even with no m.2 devices or drives plugged into SATA 5_6.

Really can’t thank you enough for this, it’s good to see some activity in the x99 camp again.

Would you happen to have any insight on what changes are expected with the upcoming beta and if there will be an updated final release?

Yeah, its good to know they are still fixing things in regards to X99 platforms.

I cant tell you for sure but afaik the next bios will have a fix that Windows cant get in the troubleshot mode (for instance if faulty hardware is detected at boot/boot failed at all or when you do Windows upgrades like from Win10 1703 to 1709) without disabling Windows8/10 feature aka UEFI/secure boot. As well as some other small fixes maybe.

I will get the exact changelog in the next days probably or at least when its released for testing on the FTP. About the final bios version, I cant tell you for sure as well but afaik there will be a final bios later that year for Godlike and Godlike Carbon which should be v1.9/v2.7. But as said this is not 100% hammered into stone and can change always if MSI decides to.
