MSI Wind PC won't boot...

So I bought this WindPC on ebay (new in box) planning on building a WHS file server. Then I took some time finding a hard drive, then took a new job, so I finally got around to starting it today (about 3 months after buying it).

When it arrived it worked fine. Powered up, seemed to post, etc.

So last weekend I installed the hard drive and ram and this weekend went to turn it on and it turned on but I got no display. So I tried a few times, still nothing.

I opened it up, checked the connections, plugged the jumper with the power button back on, pushed the button...nothing. Then at the bottom of the case right under the edge of the motherboard, I stop this:

So I'll ask the somewhat sarcastic question, do you think it's the reason it won't boot 🙂

Guess I need to start a new build.

Looks like you've come up with a solid diagnosis.

Maybe you caused it somehow during your upgrades. Maybe it was flimsy in the first place and you just happened to get it to finally pop off.

Those are soldered on the IC board.
Looks like a solid RMA here.

I figured I did it. You think I can still RMA? I don't want to do so dishonestly.

Well, if you're honest with them, you might luck out and they'd agree to do the RMA anyway. Worth a shot.

That's a good approach. There's nothing to lose, and your moral principles will still be intact.

Good point. I think I'm going to say screw it and get a ReadyNAS, but I can always use yet another computer 🙂
