MSI Vs ECS

I've heard some arguements that ECS is better/more reliable/overclocks better than MSI.

While I'd call those who believe that insane, I'd like to see everyone's opinion.

I've never used MSI, but I've heard good things about their products. I'm currently using a PC-Chips M847LU (same as an ECS K7S7AG) and I think it's great. On the basis of strictly hearsay, the only board brand I keep hearing bad things about is Soyo. Again, I've never used a Soyo board though.


A board of any brand name, however, should run fine provided it is installed correctly and is given good, properly-working components (eg. RAM that works like it should ditto PSU, etc.), regardless of whether it was made by ECS/PC-Chips, MSI, Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, etc... and as I said in that other thread that inspired this poll of yours, all of those companies and other suffered from the bad caps syndrome due to the stolen, incomplete formula.

MSI is one of the top tier manufactuers. They've got quality.
I've had too many ECS boards fail on me. No more ECS.

I think cbehnken needs to point out the thread where he is claiming a arguement happened or at least the details of the so called argument, but since he didn't do this I will.

ECS RS480-M

As anyone can see in this thread the only comment about overclocking was in reference to motherboards that use the ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 chipset (namely the MSI RS480M2-IL and the ECS RS480-M).

Also no one claimed ECS was better or more stable (BTW I am one of the people "cbehnken thinks" he was argueing with). The only arguement (if you want to call it that) was about his claim that "ECS is by far the worst motherboard manufacturer in the world, perhaps in the entire galaxy".

Since it should now be clear why cbehnken made this poll I am finished, have a nice day 🙂

Oh Christ, not another one of these threads....

There are so many variables to the question you ask that it is almost an unanswerable question and you will generate fanboy responses as a result.

Mobos are individuals. As long as the basic design is correct (no matter the manufacturer) and the board is not defective, then you will have a great mobo. ECS is also a Tier 1 manufacturer, but that does not guarantee you will not get a POS, and the same for MSI. I have used, and had trouble with, boards from both manufacturers, and likewise I have used and had trouble with boards from EVERY manufacturer out there. The one manufacturer that I can point to and say I had the least amount of trouble with is Soltek--and guess what--they are a division of ECS!!!!!

So, your question is like asking "what car is the best car to buy?" Jeez, what kind of car, first model year, price you want to pay, features, resale value, and on and on and on.....

MSI Is top of the line. ECS is budget low end stuff. But for I budget board I think they are pretty good. I had an ECS for my old Athlonxp 1700 and its been great.

ECS and MSI are both Tier 1 manufacturers.

ECS makes/has made boards for Abit, Shuttle, and Apple.

I have been pretty happy with my ECS board. So, Ill be going with them. But my opinion is extremely biased as I have not ever used an MSI board.

Are you okay? I thought I made it perfectly clear why I started this poll in my first post. I felt no need for subterfuge, but I also didn't think of a reason to link to the other thread.

I wouldn't recommend putting an ECS board in a toaster and wanted to make sure I wasn't iinsane in believing MSI generally make better motherboards than ECS and so far, at least, the poll supports my OPINION.

The next time you feel you need to point out what I NEED to do please PM me and I'll take it under consideration. Meanwhile, please go back under your bridge.
