I do have a preference towards Nvidia but for the most part I'm a price/performance or bang-for-buck buyer.

So I think (with my X48 to arrive in 2 days) that I will be purchasing a 1GB 4870 (MAYBE to CrossFire later). :D

I can't wait for them to start hitting Newegg and we all start to see some reviews.

Good news, although its a shame they didn't differentiate it with a black PCB like the 4870 X2.

Regarding 512MB vs. 1GB, what is pretty much considered the point where 512MB becomes 'not enough'? I thought that AMD cards manage memory a bit better then Nvidia cards, so I guess you can't compare directly. My guess is 512MB would be enough in nearly all situations for 1680x1050 resolution... agree? Disagree? 1680x1050 4xAA, would there be a benefit to more then 512MB on a 4870? How about for 1980x1200 res? I'm sure a 30" monitor will benefit from this. I'm just trying to get an idea on if it'll be worth spending the extra for a 1GB 4870 or not. Right now I have a 22" monitor, but if I get a 4870 I may get a 24" some day. Thanks for any opinions. :)

Theres been some reviews on this, basically 512mb can run out of memory on some games after 1920x1200

i dont have the link at hand, one was posted on the forums less than a week ago

I've glanced at reviews, I just never saw a clear out of memory sign I guess. I figured that 512 should be ok-ish up to the 1980x1200 res, I'll probably stick with 512MB unless some kind of incredible deal comes on the 1024MB version.

Got the 512 mb 4870 yesterday. Don't think the 512mb will be an issue for a long while at 1680 * 1050 especially since the only 1024 mb version I could find was an extra 120 dollars more (Australian). For that cost i can almost get a 280gtx.
