MSI to ship Radeon 9800

It was rumoured a couple months back that MSI(the largest maker of NVidia based video cards) was going to begin producing ATI cards, now it seems to be *****CONFIRMED***** 😉

wow, MSI makes nice cooling solutions (not nicer than leadtek though). i hope they dont use the reference design. i want to see a sick card from them

truthfully I've never really been impressed with anything from MSI, usually there seems to always be a faster/superior solution or a less expensive/better over all solution than MSI from some other company out there...

they switching to ATI or they going to play for both sides?

Hmm, good question. I think they might play both sides, Nvidia would be foolish to pressure them into choosing and ATI just wants in on the action, I presume.

I'de guess most likely they are switching, it's how my luck goes. I bought V-5 and 3DFX closed, I bought a KyroII just before they were deemed a joke, I bought a card just before Hercules switched and now I have an MSI FX.

Hehe, I hear ya.

A few months after getting a SQ2500, Aureal went under
A month after getting my Voodoo5 5500, 3dfx gone

MSI, Creative Labs(unfortunetly), Maxtor, and ATI still exist though. Perhaps I was only temporarily cursed. 🙂

I've had a few MSI video cards, they make good reliable video cards with nice quiet efficent cooling solutions. I'll have to check out some of their video cards based on the R9800.

is there any company at all that makes cards for both companies?

There are some, but I'm not sure which do both and which may have switched:

HIS and Gigabyte do both, I think, but I don't know how big of players they are.

there are rumors the gigabyte will start to produce nvidia cards again but the last nvidia based gigabyte card to be produced was the TNT2 i believe

I have never heard of HIS

Long live the guillimot hercules radeon 9800 pro!!! haha j/k yea msi will probably create some killer cards fro ati...nice news though

Neither had I, until my Radeon 9600 Pro showed up. 🙂 (I pobably did hear of them, just didn't pay attention) I have noticed them listed at a store site I visit, but there only Nvidia based cards are listed.

I've owned both an MSI GeForce3 Ti200 and an MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 and was thoroughly impressed with both. They come with huge game/software bundles, overclock very well, have EXCELLENT 2d output, and are just great cards. They don't knock your socks off like Leadtek does with their exorbitant cooling, or Gainward used to with their overclockable Golden Samples, but MSI makes incredibly reliable, competitively priced cards.
