I've been looking into buying a MSI Starforce card, and I've noticed that MSI doesn't have the 815 listed on their site. Only the 820 which I assume is a newer version based on the geforce2 gts. I've looked at prices for the 815 and 820 and the 820's prices are substantially lower. If the 820 is a newer better card then why is it so much cheaper? Is the 820 any good? Someone please help me! I've looked all over the internet, and I haven't found any information or reviews on the Starforce 820.:confused:

The Starforce 815 was discontinued and replaced by the 820. You can verify through this link where the info is at the bottom of the page. I didn't see any information on specs, but it's probably just a marketing update and not a physical change in the card. Newegg.com carries the 820 for $124 shipped and you can find it in the middle of the page at this link. Hope this helps :)

Welcome to the confusing world of MSI Starforce!

There's been raging discussions on this forum about the labelling of MSI's cards. Bottom line? It suc@s.

What card are you looking for? A GeForce2? GeForce2 Pro? GeForce3?

The Starforce 822 = GeForce3
815 = GeForce2 (but I've seen some cards labelled 815Pro, which seems to be a GeForce2 Pro card
831 = GeForce2 Pro

The Starforce 820 you're talking about I haven't even heard of. I would recommend the 831 - a lot of people have bought it, and they seem to be happy.

If anyone knows better please tell me, as I'm about to go for the 831 myself!

Good luck Pi!

Have MSI 8831 , from NewEgg but it won't post, may have been only bad card in batch , so want to try another one.. Specs are great 5ns mem with true 200/400 ... Bad things are no toll free tech support & no heatsinks for mem chips...
I'm running Abit KT7A with 1.2 athlon & 256 meg crucial cas 2 mem

I have one of the MSI Starforce 820 cards in my new Duron 850 system. I got it from newegg.com. It works fine and even though it is called a Geforce 2 Pro, I think it is more like a GTS. It comes with the core clocked at 200 MHz and the memory at 333. I haven't tried overclocking it yet as I am happy with its' performance boost over the geforce 2 MX cards I have in my other sytems. I believe it is the old 815 card repackaged. For the money, I think it is a good buy.
No problems whatsoever with mine.

I had the 820 and it o/c'd to 220/380. I sent it back (which USPS lost BTW) and got the 831, and I'm pretty sure they are ALL 5ns (despite descriptions on the net). Mine o/c'd to 230/460.

Hope that helps! The 820 is a pretty good card, but I went and splurged on the 831.

They're all good cards - but WHY can't they label the products properly?!?! Seems like what you have to do is actually BUY the card, then check to see WHAT the fu@k it is, and if it's the wrong card we send it back?!?!?

Seems like a waste of time to me. But I'm going for the 831, not purely because of price, but it's available here in Norway.
