50% seems impossible yet 15% seems like a joke. so they are saying that if I mess with the voltage I may go from 600 to 690? lol. I have never had to mess with voltage to do a measly 15%.

Well MSI claimed up to 20% overclock for my 5770 Hawk and essentially it does more or less that. I get about 21% core and 15% memory overclock at 1.35v on my card and i'm happy with it. If they claim 15% with voltage adjustment you can bet the stock card won't touch that.

Well XFX claimed no overclock for my 700 core 5750, but it overclocks over 25% to 900 core with no voltage tweak.:D

I guess it's still luck of the draw.:\

15% sounds reasonable to me.
for a voltage tweak overclock thats a freaking joke. every Nvidia card I have ever owned has hit 20% or more without touching the voltage.

my 6600 went from 300-400 so thats 33%
my 8600gt went from 540 to 672 so thats 25%
my 65nm gtx260 went from 576 to 702 so thats 22%

Mabe they are talking about an additional 15% with added voltage?
Most 5770's do 925 core (from 850) when overclocked but with added voltage get to 1000 core.
Seems possible?

Thats great for you and your cards but did everyone of those gpu's claim on the box to give that big of a boost? Nope. Come on now. The manufacturer cannot ship the cards out at their absolute walls performance wise. That would be a warranty nightmare. 15% is more than likely at least a little conservative and is a great advertising tactic to differentiate their product from plain vanilla fermi's.

A more appropriate response should be "if the manufacturer is claiming 15%, end users should get more out of voltage tweaking. if not, then that is a freaking joke."

yeah if they are talking about an additional 15% on top of an already 15-20% without voltage tweaks then sure. still curious about the insane 50% claim from ASUS though.

actually yeah many people did so those were hardly rare cases. ALL I was saying is that if the cards can ONLY get a 15% max overclock with volt tweaking then that would be a joke.

Mabe we are getting spoiled? A 15% overclock to me was a very good overclock for the past few years.

Well it seems from most of the hype that the GTX480 won't be overclocking well...Does anyone remember how well the 8800 Ultra overclocked?

I don't think Nvidia has pulled an 8800 Ultra yet, If I think back, that card was in supremacy for quite some time..2 years at least...

8800 ultra did not overclock well from what I remember.
I do remember people saying it was just a overclock gtx.

50% was utterly ridiculous right from the start, voltage or no voltage. Unless you use liquid nitrogen, you don’t have a chance in hell with a GTX480.

It sounds like a blowdryer, but my 5850 will do 1090@1.35V. That's a completely reasonable 50% OC. :sneaky:

Not just a GTX480. What kind of video card can you buy today and get a 50% overclock on air? Maybe a 5450 or something (if you put a fan on it) but that is still not stock cooling.
