Yes, this is a "weird" RX 570. I suspect that it may be using 12nm or salvage dies, hence the only PCI-E x8 connection, rather than x16. Also, though, note that this card uses a 6-pin PCI-E power connector, rather than a usual 8-pin for this class of cards, which may help some people out.

Strange, though, that it's still rated at 225W, since the 6-pin PCI-E is rated for 75W, and the slot power is rated for 75W, so the only way that it could be "officially" rated for 225W, is with an 8-pin PCI-E connector. (Maybe it draws 150W from the 6-pin? Or maybe it's a typo carried over from the other RX 570 cards, and this one is really based on 12nm silicon, and only really needs 150W or less? Would be a nice change.)

Price on sale is pretty decent for an 8GB model, though. Most 4GB RX 570 are as low as $120, and 8GB models seem to start at $135-140.

I don't think so, this model was introduced way AFTER the mining boom basically subsided. I vote for salvaged chipsets on 12nm. (Remember RX 590 was on 12nm, but there was never an official variant of the RX 580 or RX 570 on 12nm. A single 6-pin instead of an 8-pin could indicate that they are using the 12nm dies.)
