MSI RS480

I am thinking of getting the MSI RS480 Motherboard as it pretty suits my needs. I don't game, I don't overclock and the onboard video is more than ample for my needs. I just need something which is stable and also gives me the room to add a video card later. But i am a lil wary about getting a motherboard with Ati chipset. Is it the right motherboard to go with or is there something new coming out in the next month or so?

Thanks

I have one with a 3000+ and 2x1GB GEIL PC3200 Value for my home workstation. I use it about 12 hours/day for work and runs like a champ. Onboard video is adequate for some LIGHT gaming, with PCIe for later upgrades.

Vdorta, how did you get a Zalman 7000B-AlCu to fit on a MSI RS480M2-IL? I thought they were incompatible?!

In terms of space it fits easily; maybe you're thinking about the backplate? To replace with the Zalman all you have to do is heat the factory backplate with a hairdryer for a minute or two and then push from above, it will peel off easily. I understand the Zalman 7700 just barely fits on this mobo in the Chenming but you might have to use memory slots 3 and 4.

Does this board have problems with any particular brands? I will probably use either Corsair Value Select PC3200 or Kingston Valueram

Why would you want Just MSI RS480 Motherboard. I mean there are other board to choose from like ECS RS480, JETWAY RS480 and some more i think?

I have used both Corsair VS and GEIL Value (currently) with no problems. Have 2x 1GB sticks 🙂

Because MSI has a better reputation than ECS and Jetway or atleast i think they do. ECS reputation hasn't exactly been stellar and don't know much about Jetway.

I have it, and like it a lot. Its performance isn't what I hoped in terms of pure muscle (I don't know why I thought it'd suddenly become a kickass gaming board if slapped good ram and a big GPU in it), but is solid and hasn't given me any real problems. I would recommend it.
