MSI Rma sends me a dirty and broken board as a replacement for my basically brand new board

So I send my board in on a Tuesday they get it Friday, they do not send a replacement until Wednesday a week later. MSI uses slow shipping and I do not get the board until Monday the next week, so I was without my main rig for three weeks.

I get my replacement, it is filthy like it had the remnants of die electric grease all over it, there is no serial number sticker on the back so that eliminates any future RMA's as they require a serial number. The board is physically broken to top it all off, I am furious beyond words, what kind of shit company are they running here.

I will never buy MSI again and I urge anyone in the market for a motherboard to think hard before they purchase from this company.

EDIT: one of the pins for the SPDIF is broken off and the CMOS clear switch on the back is not is completely busted.

PART 2: Now they sent me a replacement board for the platinum and it is missing the heatpipes, really now WTF is with this fucking company are they going out of business or something, this is an absolute nightmare.

I paid for a motherboard with a warranty and I get THE WORST SERVICE IN THE WORLD, absolutely horrid experience. I have someone interested in this motherboard and now I am back at square one and screwed over again my a horrible company.

Wow, shit, does it even work?

File a complaint with the BBB I think and try to get this posted in as many places as you can. I'll also never buy an MSI.

i don't even care to test it, every time I look closer I notice more, the SATA ports are half ripped off the board, I am so flustered.

You really should complain to MSI and give them a chance to do it right.

(I have never owned an MSI board)

Yeah I called them and they said they can send me another one once they get this one, but a month without a board is a little ridiculous. I really think a blind quality control worker would have deemed this board unfit to ship

EDIT: more pics

I have been a fan of MSI for a while, but it seems their RMA department has been going downhill VERY fast.

Well they asked me to send them pics and I did and I still have yet to receive and e-mail or phone response from anyone at MSI.

Got a response and there solution to this is to RMA my RMA, so into the MSI crapshoot RMA I go again. I liked MSIs nice looking boards and good features but this has changed my mind on a company for the rest of my computing days.

WOW my replacement for my replacement is the wrong HS on it, this is really great, I am ecstatic, they send me replacement for the dirty broken board and it has the lower end P7N sli fi heatsinks on it, MSI SUCKS MSI SUCKS MSI SUCKS. Why have a warranty if you are not going to honor it with any integrity.

Sorry to hear about your RMA troubles. Sound like their RMA Dept. and QC is f**king useless.

Is there any way you can get your money back?

I'm not sure how it works in the US, but in the UK we get 12 months warranty with the shop that sold the product as well as a manufacturers warranty (if its longer than 12 months).

Or complain some more to MSI - they may give you a higher spec board, due to the inconvenience they've put you through because of their RMA cock ups / incompetence.

I kinda figured they would just offer a better board to me because of the second set of BS but not even a whisper of an offer. I will just let this story out on every forum I frequent until the top google search for MSI is of there incompetence.

The thing that really gets me is how there mantra is something about there amazing customer service. I had a board with ASUS that was problematic and had to be RMAed like four times and on the fourth time they upgraded me to a much better board and therefore re-instilled my confidence in them as a supplier.

Well, MSI's president recently predicted in an interview that one of the four (five if you count Foxconn) Tier One motherboard manufacturers would be purged from the market (or bought out) within the next two years. Maybe he was going on insider information?

Could be. Some of the complaints about MSI recently have me a bit concerned and have swayed me from buying any more MSI products in the mean time.

Has anyone used the online tracking? Do they update it? My P7N Platinum arrived at MSI by UPS 2 weeks ago and the tracking on their rma site hasn't moved. It is still stuck at RMA Approved. Apparently MSI refused the package. UPS Store idiots must have forgotten to write to RMA# on it, I should have told my dad to make them do it in front of him or do it himself. I'll find out when I get it back monday.

I also sent mine for RMA too (MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum) and when I got it, it was the exact same motherboard that I sent. So I technically don't know what did they "fixed". When putting all my components together, nothing works. I still get the red LED indicator lights. I contacted MSI Support rep and they said to check for cable, PSU, etc. I did all that and believe me, I am no noob in computer. (I have a degree in Computer Tech Support). When I tested my ram, it is confirmed working as well. The CPU I got was brand new and should be working. I believe MSI did nothing to fix this and they showed images to me that they did indeed tested the board and the computer was able to boot. Makes no sense when I can't even get it to boot and posted.

Never assume a component is good. Test the CPU in another system to confirm and get a different known compatible CPU to test the board with if possible. Also, it may be an incompatible CPU or the board may need a bios update.

Yep, eliminate all potential culprits, including PEBCAK (problem exists between chair and keyboard).

I had a seriously bad run with MSI back early in the century (mostly due to bad caps) and was a huge MSI hater. I eventually tried them again, and have had a MSI K8N SLI in 1 of my systems for almost 4yrs now, overclocked no less, and it has been rock solid.

I did have a good experience with the RMA on a VIA based board bitd as I recall, but that is the only time I ever used their RMA service.

But the computer I am building is the only one I got. There's no other computer inside my house besides the laptop.

My only other suggestion is to check the Compatibility list and search for a cheap CPU in FS/FT or try and find a good friend that will let you borrow some parts.

EDIT: Some local PC shops may also test parts for you for a small fee.
