MSI responds to poor KT266 performance

"I just received an email from MSI's BIOS development department, informing me that they too had a "performance BIOS" that greatly increases performance on the MSI KT266Pro motherboard. Apparently, for some reason, neither Anand nor Tom tested with this performance BIOS, while Chip Online and Ace's did.

Unfortunately, I cannot find that "overclocker" BIOS. The memory performance on the K7T266 Pro was worse than a KT133a in my experience.

Read this over at Aceshardware,

<< Choosing the right motherboard/chipset for the Athlon/Duron has never been so difficult. I have noticed that many people are confused by the fact that our benchmarks show that the VIAKT266 chipset (on the MSI board ) is slightly faster than the AMD760 while benchmarks of other reviews show (Anand, Tom's) that the AMD760 board is slightly ahead. Therefore I like to clear up a few things.

Several readers who bought the MSI K7T 266 Pro have contacted me and told me that the board does not perform as well as my board and that their board seem to run SpecViewPerf and other OpenGL benchmarks under Windows 2000 without any problem. Further investigation clearly showed that the retail board is shipped with a rather conservative BIOS.

At this very moment the board ships with a 1.00 BIOS, while I used the latest 1.09 BIOS (the file had a ".109" extension instead of "100&quot😉 that MSI send me. To flash the AMI Bios you need the latest flash utility from AMI, version 8.27. Both the BIOS 1.09 and Flash Utility are not yet available online. I will keep you posted when a better bios is available.

What's sad is MSI acknowledges this, yet they ship the board with a pathetic BIOS.
