i'm a little worried about that heatsink... i hope the fan is quiet at full speed... but u can't beat that price...

it's loud. looks like the fan that came on my Palit HD4850 (shorter PCB with simplified power design). that thing was only bearable at 0% in ATi Tray Tools. Above 5% it was noticeable standing out. Past that, and 5 120mm fans inside the case running at 12V are the least of your concern.

There aren't too many fans that are quiet at full speed. At least not on any video card I've owned tyhe last few years. I agree that the heatsink on this one does'nt look all that great, and the HD4850 puts out some heat.

sapphire 4850 with good hsf

for $85 shipped ar and code VGA48522 til 5/17

That heatsink looks to be exactly the same as teh one on the HD4830. I wouldn't call it "quiet" at full speed, but it's a lot quieter than the fan on my HD4890, and look better than the MSI fan (to me at least).

the sapphire hsf is very quiet compared to a lot of the other crappy hsf's on 4850's... @ 80% it's quieter than the rest of the case/cpu fans in the kid's case... all my other 4850's are totally audible when running fast enough to keep cool running when oc'd and running a game...

and i ordered one of the msi's... it's going in my aquagate duo box so it don't matter how noisy the hsf is...

well hush my puppies...

the hsf on this thing is actually very good... it's not going over 70c running furmark, and is pretty darn quiet... and it oc's to 700/1100...

the only thing wrong is that it's a very long card, but i can live with that... the reason the hsf looks kind of small in the pics is that the scale on the card is not obvious... this thing is 9.5 inches long!!! the hsf is actually 5'' around!!! and it's 2 slots tall...

this one's a keeper... may actually grab another...

Is this description relating the the MSI card in the OP, or the Sapphire card that was posted later?

Which would you recommend overall?

Also, unless there is a coupon code, the MSI card is now showing $95 AR.

the msi... it was $109.99 br when i got it......

both are solid cards, the kids say the game is worth $5, maybe $10...

I love my MSI 4850. I bought it when they first came out and it had the old cooler. There's no comparison here...the only thing I might be worried about is the fact that there's no cooling on the VRM's, but that can be easily fixed if someone wanted to. For the price, this is a great card.
